hey so i recently got a reptile tank and was wondering if i can turn it into a fish tank?
it's just the tank and screen lid.
the tank overall is about...120 gallon's, the width of it is longer then it is tall

thanks in advance

First, the only dumb question is the one not asked.
Now on to your question, it depends on several thngs, Is it sealed to hold water? What are the dimensions and glass thickness? What kind of framing/ bracing does it have? You can check under the top trim, if there is any, and see if it is sealed. Often if a tank is not intended for water then the company wont seal the top frame. I'm sure you would have noticed it but companies often put a sticker saying not to fill with water if you are supposed to.

I don't think its the best idea, since they aren't originally designed to hold large amounts of water... especially since the glass itself may not be thick/strong enough to hold up against the pressure of the water...

Maybe check craigslist for a 2nd hand fishtank???

I'm curious as to how you came to a conclusion with basically no information, other than it's a "reptile" tank

Its a very logical conclusion! If it came with a screen top, especially if its the kind that slides its not made to hold water. I am a dealer with Aqua Aquarium and Visio and reptile enclosures are not structurely the same!

well the screen/lid comes off very easily, it doesn't slide or anything. more of the lifting up and down type lol

but anyways, when i looked into the tank, the cocking was done poorly so i'll have to get it fix, and
should i test my luck to see if it can hold water or just sell it?

thanks for the replies guys

Once again another "if". As a dealer you should know that in order to determine the quality, you would need the thickness and how it's braced to give an accurate answer.

Why do people on here love jumping to a conclusion without the facts. In all fairness, no it probably wont hold water but lets find out the information required to give an answer before giving one.

If the sealing needs redone then it may not even be worth your time, regardless of the glass thickness. In order to give a PROPER answer, the information I mentioned in my first post would be needed. I certainly wouldn't try it just for the sake of doing so though.

Giving a description of bracing and glass thickness isnt worth anything. If he thinks it was a reptile cage and isnt sure if its water worthy there are two choices! Fill it with water somewhere safe for a couple weeks or just by a new tank. I personally would never buy a used glass aquarium.

That is why i said "i don't THINK its the best idea" i never said straight up it wouldn't work!!! since i've heard of people who have filled reptile tanks 1/4 full of water, but NEVER actually full of water... since most reptile tanks are not designed to hold large amounts of water if any at all, or they would be called an Aquarium, not a reptile tank...

Oh and yes, i know some people use aquariums as reptile tanks, but obviously if that was the case with the OP i'm sure he/she would have said so... (just incase any one else wants to nit-pick at my post)
