Hi all,

i am wondering if i can put an external filter on the same level as the tank itself, i have my tank on a window sill and nowhere below to put a filter.

If you mean a canister filter, yes you can... but you will likely have problems with it not being able to get rid of the air it builds up.

For sumps, it opens up a new can of worms but it can be done. Pretty much the overflow design needs to be changed and needs to be larger too. See the new sticky thread on pipe sizing. You will need the 'horizontal flow' chart. Also see the diagram for the second overflow in the same thread. That is the design that you will need.

If emptying the tank is an option, you can partition the end for an internal sump.
