Quick question

I'm bout ready to pick up another 55g and I would like to do something a little different.

The fish I already have planned. But I was thinking of going with a sandy bottom over gravel. I have always had gravel and well would be nice to change it up a little bit.

Now here is my very noob question. What kind of sand do I get to put in it? And where abouts do I go about getting it. I dont see it at my LFS.

I am in the Bay Area if that helps anyone.

playsand gets in the water column easier too... you will hate it when it gets in yoru filter

agreed. Pool filter sand is easy to clean to.

75-100lbs should give you some nice "coverage" bro.

IMO. i like a 60/40% mix of sand and gravel.(looks more natural)

you could also try a landscape supplier; might be cheaper and you might have a better selection.

Don't forget about "rinsing/washing" your substrate before putting in your aquarium.

Thanks. I think I will shy away from adding any gravel. Not really looking for a natural thing. Just wanting to try some sand.

Get your pool filter sand from Lelslie's Pools if there is one around. the sand is cheap and is usually already pretty clean. Most of the time, I don't even have to rinse it.
