i found a fish tank on craigslist that i plan on buying but the owner said that it was used as a saltwater tank and is "drilled for overflows" is that going to matter if I want to use it as a freshwater tank?? I need to know ASAP!

would i set it up just like a regular freshwater tank? or would i have to close the holes? sorry if its a dumb question but i have no idea about any saltwater setups!

If the price is right and you have another tank laying around that you can put under the tank your buying I would get it. I'd much rather have a drilled tank with overflows and a sump then a tank with Hob Filters.

well the tank is 155gal with a stand and they offered a protein skimmer which i don't need but i told them i'd take it. and i have 55gal tank but i don't know if i could put that under it. and the price is a trade for one of my guitars (one i don't even play anymore so its basically free). but could someone explain to me what a sump is? and why its better? lol im honestly confused

All kinds of Sumps. Many different layouts in the DIY section. A sump is a filter that sits under your tank or in another room. You use the holes in the bottom of the tank to build an overflow system that takes water from your tank and puts it in the sump filter. then a pump in the sump flows the water back to your main tank. It allows you to hide things like Heater, Skimmers, etc...

the Protein skimmer is for Saltwater, I'd take everything you can get with the trade. Take pics once you have it all and post up here. Many people will chime in with things you can do next once you give them an idea of your budget and what type of fish you'd like to keep.

PS: if you'd like throw us a link to the CL ad and we can look it over and point u in the Right Direction.

Ok i think i understand what it is now! It's like more of a natural filtering system, and it goes through different overflows and filters in each different compartment, am i correct? also is this a better way of filtering? or should i stick with the HOB filter? one more question.. is it hard to setup this kind of filtration system?
