Quick sand question

Hey guys,
I want to use sand as my substrate in my 55, but I don't know if the sand I got is ok. The 55 has a beeding pair of Jack Dempsey's, and a couple pim cats in it.
The sand I got is 20 lbs of exo-terra's river sand, and 30 lbs of exo-tera's desert sand. On one of the packages it says "fine quartz, better then silica". I don't know what type of sand the other packages are.

How do I know if the sand is safe for my aquarium?

If you put quick sand in your tank i don't think you will sink lower then the bottom of the tank.

Do you like them for any particular reason?

I (and many others) use pool filter sand - easy to clean, cheap, and safe.

I like it because it was clearanced out. I have the sand already, just want to know if it is fine to use....
