So I might possibly be getting an 85 gallon tank.
I was thinking of putting a Midas in there that I'm getting soon.
But, if I put the midas in there, wouldnt that severly limit what other fish I could put in there?
I'd really like a Jag, but obviously a Jag + Midas in an 85 is going to cause some problems.
What would be some good cichlid choices for an 85?
I really like amphilophus lionsi as they have great coloring and I'd be able to keep a pair. What about the Lionsi with a pike, possibly a Xingu I?

a pair of lyonsi should be fine in there. a lyonsi with a pike? um you'd have to wait for one of the pike experts to come in for that one as it would depend on the average temperament and growth potential of the species you're looking at.

if you go with jag or midas then adding other fish would be a bad idea as either would be best in that size tank as a single fish setup. you may be able to get away with a pair of either but it'd be risky because either species can become aggressive to their mates in that size tank.

Yeah Thats what I was thinking.
I'd love to have a pair of Jaguars. I might try a pair of Jags, and if it doesnt work I can always move the female or male out of the tank..

How are lyonsi's temperament? Would they do ok with say, an Oscar?
Just wondering because I'm thinking of rescuing a long finned O from an LFS that has it in deplorable conditions.

I have never owned lyonsi, but I have heard they can be pretty nasty. However, a have an oscar in my cichlid community, and, since it was the first fish in the tank and also the largest, the other more aggressive cichlids leave it alone.

Alright cool.
I'll give it a go.
If the O doesnt work out I can always move it to another tank.
I'm really wondering if the Lyonsi would tolerate a pike though.
