Quick Sunfish question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
we have them down here in Illinois and they are in all different temps, but when it is really hot I would think they go down deeper for moderate temps. I had some and when the tank would hit mid 80,s in the summer they breathed heavily

How will the fish be affected at different temps?

I know that lower temps improve the oxygen saturation levels in the water, and that lower temps decrease the toxicity of ammonia. However, has anyone noticed whether or not higher temps increase how active the fish are? Higher temperatures increase collision rates on a atomix level, which does increase metabolism and therefore activity levels.

So, what I'm saying is would increasing the temperature to the higher end of that scale make the fish more active?

All Natives become more active at higher temps, i agree with all posts above except the one about exploding fish. by higher i mean 74-80, higher than that i think would become detrimental, and you should make sure plenty of gas exchange was occoring at the surface, such as running a small powerhead with venturi air high in the tank, so as to create surface agitation.
