I have read all the posts here in the Piranha forums about tank mates and have taken all the advice given to others into account. Though i came across a fish tonight which got me thinking and wanted to know what you guys thought.

Now in 2 weeks i will be getting my 150 gal tank and i am playing to keep about 5 RBP as i am putting in lots of hiding places and the tank is nice and long i was wondering how would a Black Ghost Knife Fish make it in there as they are nocturnal fish and hide most of the time.

Thanks to all that answer :)

It will get eaten, even with hiding places. Bad idea, it will cause you to say FAIL after it gets eaten...

ok thnx :) wont put anything with them then :)

Hi.

Two things to comment:

1.- With a 150g I'd go with 8 piranha, the more the better as long as you don't overstock. So for a 150g 8 RBP's is a good deal mate...:headbang2

2.- Read my lips man: NO TANK MATES AT ALL!!!:screwy:.... unless you don't care if those are eaten or maimed pretty badly and thus end up dead.

Have I made my points clear enough dude????

Yes Sir you have :D and i will go with 8 like you recommend, Thanks for the advice its always helpful. Good to learn from the Vets :D

shrimp look nice with piranhas, and when they get eaten they are cheap to replace. I just buy 50 ghost shrimp at a time and throw them in. I think its a nice addition to the tank.

hahaha. What do you guys think about plecos? I believe I have read on P Fury that some p owners keep plecos.

Hi.

I have read about guys that have kept plecos along with P's succesfully even for years. Despite it shouldnt be taken for granted that it is working all the time.:screwy:

Most of people who have kept plecos along with reds have succeded just for some time. It is a matter of time, but unfortunately plecos end up eaten as well.

It happened when i kept a big plecos along with P's, after a month one day i woke up to find out my plecos was decapitated.:(

P's are like that you might thing they have gotten acostumed to tank mate but maybe one day they just go bananas and kill him just because.

So if you want to keep plecos along with P's go ahead just dont get to attached to it and dont get surprised if one day you wake up and see it or what is left of it floating dead.

In fact regarding tank mates issue It comes to my mind that maybe the only one fish that could live succesfully with a P's shoal is a Pacu.... but believe me you dont want a pacu along with your reds unles you have a 1500 litre tank or bigger.

Cheers.

i was given a red belly baby from a friend who started with 15 and was down to 2. i think he wasnt feeding them enough. so in an effort to save his last 2 he gave them to me. one died that night the other had cloudy eyes but that went away after multiple 50 percent water changes in his 29 gallon tank. hes now pushing four inches and getting fat ( got him at an inch maybe 2) so one day i put in a couple of goldfish to see how he reacted . they both were missing most of there tails that night.

but...after that they grew back ,and its been like 3 months since i introduced them. they are healthy as ever and theres no aggression going on at all, i cant say it will be that way forever but for now its going great! i just keep the red belly fed twice a day on sinking pellets and the goldfish clean up whatever he leaves behind. its a cool experiment and its workin for now. im not saying it will work forever but i wanna see how long i can keep this going. as for serrasalmus rhombeus ive tried adding tankmates to my 6.5 inchers tank NOTHING will ever work.

Just wait man is a matter of time...

it would be like keeping a juvenile cougar along with some sheeps... just because it is a cub and well fed it doesnt mean it wouldnt end up killing the "mates".
