Im sure I will get some interesting answers, but does it matter or is it odd if a fish keeps their tube down for over a month? With no female in sight and living alone? Is it bad, indifferent? Just curious please dont write back anything like "hes ready to make babies"..this I know. My question is only in regards to health..it also just seems odd to me.

On my larger cichlids, I usually can see their tube. I assume its normal and just means that they're at a mature age.

Yeah. Just odd, his is always down while others who I have are not. Started like a month ago and he stills keeps it up. I dono

Is he eating well and otherwise healthy? Could be a prolapse. Hope not.

Yeah hes completely normal. Very active, eats a ton, lot of variety in his diet...it went down when there was a female in there for a cpl weeks...shes been gone weeks now and hes the same, lot of digging and tube down.

Digging is common but I do not know. Am going to take out his pot and see if that changes anything.

I had a male red devil that did that. It was that way for over a year and then it went back inside. I thought it was odd as well. If the fish seems healthy and all might not be any cause for concern.

Jenny craig that's funny. But might work, I feed all my fish on the heavy side and have to make myself go a few days a month without feeding. I would try it.

Hes only around 5 inches. Not fat, but well fed. Was away for 3 days twice in last 3 weeks and they did not get to eat at all. Hes definitely not sick, crazy active and hungry. Only feed twice a day and I usually end up feeling like I could always feed my fish more. Im not concerned with him being sick, more of a what is going on with him type of question. Thanks for the responses.

Yeah I don't think he sounds sick, sick fish "tell" you they are sick with there actions. Like I said I had a fish that did that too. It just went away. Mine was super healthy too and that's why I dident worry much about it. Good question though I wonder if anyone knows what it is.

Lots of overweight fish have perpetually extended tubes. Any need to go on Jenny Craig?

Well that explains my oscar, I'm going to have to cut back more.
