quickrete sand?

I want to have natural looking sand substrate. ive read that alot of people use quickrete fine grade sand. is this stuff safe? does it cloud the water?



I would like to mix this with some heavy grade sand, gravel and some larger rocks has any one done this?

o and what sand should I buy there seem to be a lot of different packages including play sand

Get play sand. Put half a bag into a 5gal bucket and keep stirring with the hose until the water runs clear. Then dump that sand into your tank and finnish off the rest of the bag.
I use play sand of all of my tanks, cheapest, most natural looking sand.

Oh, and all my plants' roots grow well in it too.

If you mix sand with rocks, the sand tends to sink and the rocks will end up on top... if you're ok with this, then it's fine.

yeah rocks on top that the idea I have it done in a ten gal with reptile sand. it clouded the water but its all settled now

I have Quickrete media sand in my 125g. It looks pretty, is white, and sucks...... I don't like this sand at all it's too fine, IME all of their sand is too fine for aquatic use. If you try and gravel vac it like PFS or aquarium sand, it will clog up your sink if your using a phython. I drain the water in my tank out a window now until I get the time to switch it out..

use quickcrete playsand from home depot. is $5 a bag. put it in a pillow case and rinse it for about 10 minutes. it will be cloudy for a day or 2 but then its fine. it looks good

I bought quickrete for a mudskipper tank and took it out right after I put it in, not the look or quality I was going for

^ huh? What did you mean? I was saying I've tried it and I liked the look but don't like the sand overall because it's too fine (grain size).
