I have a 75g tank with 2 AquaClear 70 filters on it. Unfortunately, while the AquaClears are very efficient filters, not only do their motors/propellers create a lot of noise, the water pouring out into the tank creates even more. Does anyone have any suggestions for a really good, but really quiet filter? I'm not trying to spend hundreds on it or anything, I just need something quieter.

Why is the water splashing? do you have it low to keep an eel in?

i can barely hear my aquaclear 30s and 50... they are the quietest filters i have.. the marineland penguin 350 and 200 are loud, and my rena xp4 is humtastic.... so i can't recommend either of those. i got two aquaclear 30, one aquaclear 50, two penguin 200 and the xp4 all in my bedroom and i'd say the xp4 is rather noisy but due to where it sits i don't hear it.. the penguin 200 is the worst. I had to discontinue using the penguin 350 due to noise.

My penguin and emperors where loud. I noticed they where louder when the water level is droped. I would raise the water level up so there's no splashing, that would help. I highly recommend Eheim filters, the classic's are on the cheap side. I got the 2217 model and I can't hear anything, unless you put your ear really close to it. It's by far my quietest filter I've own. Magnums, emperors, penguins, and aquaclears don't compare.

I have to touch my XP3s just to make sure they are running. My FX5 is pretty much the same way.

interesting so far we have some people saying that brand X is noisy for them and brand Y is quiet while for me its brand Y and my X is quiet.. mabe i need to clean some impellers :screwy:

i get two fx5s on saturday but unfortunately don't have a tank to attach em too yet

to be fair, I honestly think my ac70s had some issues. I know others that had great ac70s. My ac110 is not bad and neither is my ac50, but my 70s sucked. They were all purchased from the same place around the same time and everyone I know who bought them then had different issues with them and they always lead to a leak. So I think that was just a bad batch, but it still ruined the brand name of hagen for me :(
I also had a bad batch from marineland. Only difference is their customer support did something and sent me new ones, I am still waiting on my hagen replacements...
Anytime I buy 4 filters at once I have problems :(

Have to agree with that. Fluval and eheim both make awesomely quiet filters
