Got sick of the annoying sound of the used aquaclear 70 that I bought so went ahead and bought a second hand fluval 304 hoping this would resolve my issue.. so far no dice.
I cleaned each piece with tap water first. then set it up and ran it all in a bucket with a bleach sollution to clean the saltwater use out of it then re cleaned with tap water. Even when I started the fluval with the bleach sollution I found a very loud rattling noise (even worse then the aquaclear).
Here's the details:
I accidentally broke one of the 2 clips that holds the piece covereing the impeller when I tried to remove it. it still sits perfectly in place but maybe this is an issue?
I used vaseline on both the large rubber band as well as the impeller shaft.
When I went to put the impeller shaft back in i noticed a small black rubber piece at the bottom of the hole where the maginet would go .. hauled this out and assumed it belonged on the bottom of the impeller shaft going into the hole at the bottom so I placed it on the impeller shaft after putting that through the maginet then returned the unit in place.
When I filled up the canister using the priming system (assuming i did this correctly) I kept pumping the primer continuously for about 5 or 6 minutes until it seemed like mosttt of the air coming out of the return hose had stopped coming out but no matter how long I did it if I kept pumping every 20 seconds another large bubble would come out .. after getting frustrated with this I assumed it was filled and I just plugged it in to find an irritating rattling noise.
I have this filter hooked up on my tank now running but it is still extremely loud and I do not have a cabinet built to store it in yet to keep the noise down.
also this tank is in my bedroom .. where I sleep so I'm trying to keep the noise as close to silent as possible so any other suggestions for quieting the system would be great.
