This past weekend I extended my water feed lines going into my sump and into my filter sock just below the water level line. This was recommended by a friend that makes water features for a living to quite my sump. I added a 750 gph pump and (2) spray bars to cover my scrubbies (before this the sock was on top of the scrubbie bin. This has drastically cut down on my sump noise. Also, the extensions are not glued in and will have to be removed when changing my sock.

Here is a video:

It's been running for a day now and I have not had an issue with the water level dropping in the sump (was worried about reduced water flow and the pumps draining the sump - (2) mag 18's)

Does anyone see a future issue with this setup?

Even though you lowered the pipes to quiet down the noise which is good. Once the socks start to clog they will fill up with water thus lowering the water in your sump.

Looks like your running a 7 inch sock like I am and when my filter clogs I start to see the pump blowing air bubbles and the water is very low. That's how I know my filter is clogged. I shut everything off and the sock drains back into the sump slowly filling it back up. Then I clean it. Those 7 inch socks hold around a gallon of water or more when clogged.

After cleaning my sock and running with a clean one my water level doesn't drop for a couple of days. Once the sock starts to get clogged my sump lowers in water level also.

I get about 4 days on a sock before it fills up, so we'll see how it does.

Thanks for the input.

When my socks fill up, they sag lower in the sump because they are hung with air hose line. This added with the extra mass of water in the sock i think will result in the same noise reduction because the tubes will be submerged.

Also, just for more detail - I'm running a 100 gallon sump on a 330gal tank.
