I have a established 55g i have been using as a grow out tank all my fish have moved on to bigger tanks so i was thinking of using it as a quarenten tank. So hers my question how to keep what fish do you use to keep your tank going you just cant keep it empty or you will starve your bacteria how do you guys keep your quarenten tanks?

i move media arround from cycled tanks.... take the filter on it and put it on the bigger tank.... i just keep extra media in my sump if i need to set up another tank i have cycled media...

I used to keep a large African clawed frog in my 20 gallon quarantine just to keep it going, but now just do pretty much what Nic suggested.

You can do that or you can add ammonia to the tank daily and it will be fine.

too much work for me my Q tanks sit bone dry until needed... they get cleaned with a bleach solution after every use...

Do you also clean the filter with a bleach solution before putting it on another tank to collect bacteria? Can filter sponges also be cleaned this way or will some bleach stay in the sponge?

Keep it empty, just put an extra HOB filter on an active tank and when needed you can transfer that cycled filter to the quarantine tank.
