I have a few questions... For one. They always say to have more females than males.. I understand that. But I always see people looking for a trio (1m2f) Now has anyone really had a male breed with 2 females in the same tank, at the same time? Cause from what I see with 2 or more females prego at the same time. Always has more than one male. Cause right now I have 4mature rays in a pond(1m/3f) . And I was thinking how cool it would be if all were to breed with the one male. So I just wanted to know if anyone out there has had two or more female rays prego at the same time, from the same male?

Thanks much!

good question
i am thinking of another female
it seems like the few people i know that breed will have alot of rays together and only 1 pair will do the breeding
i think it all depends on if the ray is mature enough or ready to breed or not

Yeah thats what I see also . I think the right idea would be to have a few 4x8 tanks. With one pair per tank. And maybe have a male that you can pull and put in other tanks to spice them up. And then you would really be able to see whats going on. And you might be able to have a better pup outcome. As if you just have a pond with a few rays. You wont have full output. I know all my rays are ready. Time will tell

I have 2 males and 4 females in one of my 450's. One male is only 12" and he has one damaged clasper. I have one male that is about 14 1/2" and I know he is the father with one of my females and I suspect he may be the father with the other female too.

A mature male can handle alot of females, maybe 4? Roughly guessing though... Talk about a good life, lol!

I have kept 2 females with a single male and had both females pregnant at the same time- given birth a couple weeks apart. It depends on what your goals are- if you want the most pregnancies with the fewest rays your single male/multiple male set up if probably the best. In my opinion, multiple females can also help distribute some of the sometimes 'rough' male attention too so that a single female isn't getting too roughed up during breeding time. If you have a single male you always know who the parents of the pups are too if you care about that kind of thing. On the other hand, some feel that male competition can be an important factor in breeding. I have not personally found this to be true, but perhaps it depends on the individual/species.

Cool. Thats what I wanted to hear. Cause I have a super nice male in with 2 good looking females and one plain motoro.. And I was thinking with my luck, He will breed with the plain motoro. I think I'll add a male to spice some things up.

We have at least two males of each species we breed ( also to keep the bloodlines seperated) But we have always at least 6 females pregnant ( ad this moment we have 14 females pregnant) But they all are in different stages of pregnancy but most of the time every 3 5 weekswe have pups from different rays.
