It died in my hands last night!
I went and picked him up yesterday, the seller had emptied all bar 6 inches of water to make it easier to catch..... i didn't realise he left all his ornaments in there.... He wet a towel and tried to catch him, the fish went crazy, i raced over to give him a hand and saw all the sh*t still in the tank and said "hold on hold on, get all the stuff out so he doesn't bash himself...
After a 30min ride home, i dripped him for an hour, then it was my turn to catch him.... easy as, i just did it very casually and he didn't go crazy, just squirmed a little.
After in the tank he looked great except for a few missing scales, I added melafix and salt to help him heal, he was swimming around nicely....
It was about midnight, just before i went to bed i went out to check on him and he was upsidedown on the bottom but still breathing. I washed my hands with water only, reached in and brought him up to the surface, i got a powerhead out of my other tank and swam him infront of it, he started coughing up these clouds of food( i didn't feed him). after about an hour of swimming him, he gave up and died...
I feel terrible, he was such a beautiful fish....just shy of 20".
Pretty annoyed at the previous owner and very annoyed at myself for letting this happen.
At the end of the night i counted he had lost 23 scales, Most of which came from one area...enough to kill him?
Not sure how people would feel about this but after he died i disected his stomach(Consider that a warning of the last two pictures) and it was FULL of what looked and smelt like mashed up algae waffers.... he was coughing that and other pallets up near the end, non of which could have come from my tank.
I've put it down to bashing and loosing all those scales from one section, stress of being caught and moved and maybe his stomach contents....
