Well of the past few days my cichla sp yellow hasnt been quite himself but still happy and eating and cheerful, just a bit more reclusive if that makes sense. But he was fine last night ate well and was nice and happy this morning before i went to work, i got a phonecall off my mum a few hours later saying 'Dont swear bruce....' I immediatly thought that a fish had died, and she explained it was my smallest cichla, had this guy since october got it off live and ate food great. Im so gutted. Got home and saw him around 7" in the end. No idea how he died.

Ive done a few extra waterchanges of late and improved filteration. He was in a 6x2x2 and nothing really bothered him as its a mellow tank, mega overfiltered and regulary waterchanged, filteration is a Fluval FX5, tetratec ex 1200, eheim 2213 canister and a big internal. Gutted i am.

No sign of death really. My boss reckons it could be a n interbacterial thing, the entrie batch died from the shop so my guy lasted, maybe it caught up with him didnt show any signs. Im fedup but its all part of the game hey?

But ive kept 16 different cichla and am down to 2 :( Just a fish that i cant keep unless i get em of a good size. Still have the big monoc and spangly occell.

Just thought id say guys :(

i know the feeling!!! it sucks bro!!! all we can do is bounce back

Sorry to hear about your loss, I'm battling something similar with my Temensis right now, fine one day, now they're lethargic, breathing hard and won't eat... It's hard to bounce back!!!

Filtration sounds good, tank size sounds good, I'd dare ask: what do you feed them, and how do you do your water changes?

Food, I read you got him off live.
Water changes, do you age the water? Reason why I ask is chloramine, even if you add water conditioner (best I've used is Prime), if there's a high % of chloramine in the water you fish's gills will get affected, and in the long term severely damaged.

Sorry for your loss.

sorry for your loss mate.. that must suck big time!
