Sadly, my curious female senegal bichir has died. She swam into a syphon hose and must have been stuck snout first for about an hour. I made the tragic mistake of not being present.

What makes this doubly sad is she was part of a mated, breeding pair. I only got one brood from them (i didn't even know there were babies).

The male has been looking for her constantly for the last few days, non stop swimming around and going into every nook and cranny. Interesting behaviour.

They've been together for 6 years.

the first pic you barely see them under the tank mates. the following 3 pics are when i discovered the babies (pictured at 2") i found em under the tree stump and quickly moved them to a seperate tank. they all sold within a week. I imagine they had more babies but i only found 22....not bad in a tank full of predators.

Thats to bad man, mistake wasn't from not being present though. Stinks to lose any fish, expecially when you have had one for that long.

that sucks. its cool you got 22 babies from the pair though

I almost lost one delhezi the same way. It was sucked head first into a tube. good thing this tube was transparent so it was easy to notice. i immediately unplugged my pump and she came out the tube a little groggy. :) atleast she was saved!

I'm so sorry for your loss. especially that it was a breeding one. :(
