R/O waste water

Hello all,

I'm wondering if the waste water from the r/o DI unit can be used for anything. the ratio is one gallon of good water and 5 gallons of waste water under normal pressure and temperature. so that means I'd be wasting hundreds of gallons of water weekly.

What is the composition of this water and could it be reclaimed or used for something? even the lawn? Maybe JPTC can answer this?

haha...it would wear out the ro unit much faster, its like using extra hard water and filtering it., this is the backwash. I wonder what the chemical composition of it is.

yeah, so people have used it for fish and its ok? I mean, if that's the case, I'd use it for all my hard water freshwater fish., but I wonder what the chemical breakdown is.

water the lawn maybe. on reefcentral someone suggested using it for the laundry, which I think would make your clothes stain with a water residue color., also the same with using it in the pool, it would increase lime buildup on the pool too right?
