Just went to the grocery store to pick up 50 gallons of ro water. Wow the looks you get.lol I only got 25 gallons to start, and still so many looks:screwy: The things we do for our fish:D Just have to endure one more trip.lol:nilly:

not worth it for me. I can get ro water for 30cents a gallon. My setup is 55 gallons, and a cheap ro unit is over $100. I make less than 20g a year. Got to cut corners whenever possible.

You change 95% of the water each time? Or are you just picking up 50g at a time and storing it til you need it?

Even still you spend $15 on 50g, plus the gas and time for the trip. Assuming 50g lasts you a month, you could pay for an RO unit in less than a year, after that you're saving money by having it.

That's what I'm sayin. You spend way more than 100 dollars on it in a very short period of time...paying for water...psssh...

Some fish stores sell RO and DI water, though, make lots of money off it.

I'm setting up a new tank, not a water change.lol If I was doing 50 gallon changes than I would definitely get a ro unit. Just filling the tank, then 10 gallon changes a month after. I worked out all the math, $40 in my wallet: $15 for store bought or $99 for tap.lol Didn't have much choice, plus my other tank is leaking so I have to get this moving along fast.:)

Only negative with RO is the cost of filter replacement, but they have come a long way in the last 10 years. Not nearly as expensive to upkeep as they used to be. Even if you need to drop $30 on a new filter every 6-12 months, you'd still be saving money.
