One of my oscars has gone crazy. It sits in one spot in the tank facing the back and moving gravel. If in of my other fish come within 6in she attacks them. When I try to make it stop I put my hand above the water and it will lay down on the bottom of the tank. What could be the problem.

How big is your oscar? She could be a he. If it is at least 6" (this is when oscars become sexually mature) it is most likely making a spawning site. If it is making a spawning site, then it will defend it, just as you mentioned. Perfectly normal behavior.

yeah, sounds like normal female behavior to me, from pretty much any species of animal.

... so it's just a boy who's turning into a man and looking for a little action. Sounds familiar :grinyes:

My oscar opens his mouth and shakes back and forth while he looks out the glass. He also attacks my algae magnets when I'm cleaning. I don't understand wy hes pissed Hes got all the room he needs

Tis normal. Although they aren't as aggressive as some cichlids per say...they do have aggression. One of my oscars was a PAIN IN THE BATOOTIE! When ever the heater light came on he would go psycho and attack it! Kinda funny to watch, but annoying after havin to replace 3 heaters.....:swear:

Perfect description..

It is a 6*2*2 with 2 JD, 2 Oscars, 1 apurensis, 1 lima

It's normal oscar behavior for either males or females, trying to stop it will just be a waste of time.
