rafael catfish not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you just get him recently? Is he in a tank with other faster bottom feeders? I've had my 4 Raphaels over 18 months and they still won't eat until after the tank and room lights are out. These fish are hiders during the day. I would expect him to be super extra shy if he's new. Anyway, mine love algae wafers, cichlid flakes and bloodworms. I turn on the red lights on the tank after dark and they come out scooting all over the place. They take forever to grow, too.

i have 2 stripped and 1 spotted in with a bunch of clown loaches and blood parrots. They come out whenever i feed but i grew them out in a seperate tank for a few months and fed hikari sinking carnivore pellets. I was amazed how quickly they grew with daily feeding

If he is new, than he is just getting used to the tank.
Try Hikari sinking wafers.

Tankmates?

Since these guys are mostly nocturnal (some folks have exceptions that come out in daylight), it's possible that it's eating overnight. Even if it's not, I wouldn't worry too much if it's new to the tank.

;) Hikari algae wafers, Hikari sinking carnivore pellets & Danichi XL Pro. + whatever the others miss. They are nocturnal eaters by nature. If he's new, it'll be a few days before he settles in. Don't worry, when he's comfortable & hungry, he'll eat. "T"

I agree with above. I've kept striped rafs in all my tanks since I was a kid. Some only come out at night, others are pigs! I wouldn't worry about it (too much).

thanks for the tips, i just put food in my tank but i never see him eat. i hope hes eating...... i leave him alone with lights off so i dont know if hes eating, he moves a lot though for some reason. always in a new spot
