hi there...yesterday I got a young juvenile pair of rainbow cichlids and they seem to be getting on great, swimming together ..messing around, seem really happy
The fish are still quite small (female only being around 1 inch and half.....male around 2 inch both in juvenile colouring) they are however showing a strong green/orange tint .
At what point do these fish start spawning, do they usually have full adult colouring first??
Another question.... when I set my tank up I figured the large smooth round stones at one end of the tank would have been attractive to them when and if it came to spawning but they seem to be hanging out in a pile of wood and rough stones that is used by my loaches as a hangout. Funny thing is the loaches seem quite happy for the rainbows to lie with em in the caves, the loaches are way bigger and how would this normally play out??...should I assemble some small caves at other side of the tank to allow for relocation should it come to fisticuffs or do I just let them sort it out??
They seem best of friends atm......would the rainbows clear the caves of all other fish if spawning??
There are maybe four or five seperate caves in the same area and I could easily split up some rocks to give an alternative cave hideaway at the other end of the tank.....
