I've had this male for at least 2 years. Got him and 2 others from a lfs. He eventually killed the other two. Haven't been able to find anymore since then. The only ones I've seen were for sale online for $14 A PIECE! That is not including shipping. Shipping would cost me another limb :screwy:

Then when I went to CichlidsRool(Tom)'s place, he had them!:nilly: I knew I had to get a female or two. So I got 2 babes home for him and he's been trying to seduce them since.

He has been clearing a spot for a while now, but he's always been like that plus chasing the two girls...it's like routine. Now, today, I noticed that the smaller female has changed colors when I was feeding them. I guess he was finally able to woo one because she's at that spot and they are constantly going in and out of there together.

No signs of eggs yet, but I'm sure that's coming after some fish action ha! :naughty:

The big man, flash wiped out his colors. He's more bold and gold in real life. You can't even see that silverish irridescence.

Sweet, love Rainbow Cichlids. Gotta eventually get my female a male one day heh

Thanks for sharing and good luck on their spawning.

that is a good looking robust specimen, hope it goes well, don't forget to post updates when the fry come

I'm gonna be doing the same thing I did with my sajica fry and marbled convict fry. Once they go from the wiggler stage to free-swimming, I'm gonna siphon them all out and move to my seasoned and micro-organism filled shrimp tank.

Kind of actually scared me. I was looking in the tank just now and all but 3 eggs were left on the side of the terracotta pot. I was like oh no! damn the first time parent thing happened ><...but they kept guarding the spot. Usually if the parents had eaten the eggs, they abandon the area too. They are also aggressive enough I trust them to be able to protect their fry. So....I took a closer look and see a blob of vibrating things in the gravel. Was kind of hard actually because of the spot they picked. I can't stare directly at it and if I move slightly, my tank has curved corners so I can't see that way either. Had to look from the surface at the top to see.

Yay for wigglers! :D

Side note, brianjim was right, the female has turned and IS really aggressive. Kind of surprised me because the male was the one chasing them around when he was trying to pair up. Now she's like wacko mean bee-atch chasing the other female and her man.
