rainbow fish

I think under the right circumstances it's possible. Look at rainbows that will tolerate the higher temps discus prefer, and I would also stick to the smaller species. Some names you could research : melanotaenia parva, " macculliochi, " praecox, " gracilis, " papuae, "ramuensis, " lakamora, and Iriatherina werneri. All of these are smaller (below 4"). I think you would need plenty of plants, and plenty of open space for the rainbows to swim. I would make sure the rainbows are quite smaller than the discus, and keep both fish in groups. My main concern would be the rainbows prolonged exposure to high temps.

I have kept them in the past with Discus with no problems. Not sure of the name, but it was the solid red ones with the hump back. They grew big and spawned heavily in the tank. Just a bit aggressive at feeding, getting their share first...Bill
