ok ive done research on these fish but cant realy find any info if they are diggers. i want to have a pair of rainbows or keyholes in my 58 gallon it will be planted with amazon swords, and java fern and maybe hornwort flaoting at the top. do you think theyl be ok with plants i know most cichlids arent but i was hoping these lil guys would be thanks.

never had Keyholes, but Rainbows are definitely plant safe . . . very robust little fish that should not cause any major problems or damage

i have two keyholes in a 36 gallon. the tank is heavily planted and have never lost any to them eating em. also ive never seen them digging around. keyholes are IMO, one of the most peaceful cichlids. they live with neons and amano shrimp happily. you could easily have 4 or 5 in that size of tank if its well filtered and well planted.

There is a tank display at my LFS that is EXACTLY like described what you want to do. fish,plants,size...It looks good.

Keyholes should be fine but festivums lean heavily on the herbivorous side and will probably chew on plants! I doubt they'll dig them up, though. Festivums usually stay in the upper levels of the tank and don't do much foraging in the substrate.
