On my visit to Seattle, I got the chance to eat at really great place, The Rainforest Cafe. It is a theme restaurant that features animals of the amazon and rainforest, and is popular due to it's atmosphere as well as the 'themed' food.

As you enter the the cafe, you are forced to walk through the gift shop. However, the 'Archway' to enter the dining area is un-mistakable. It is a massive acrylic aquarium, which houses fake decor and a TON of marine MONSTERS.

Check it out.

Inhabitants included this MASSIVE PUFFER! Measured at 28" !!! :headbang2

Unfortunetly, there was not alot of swimming space, but the curator told me they actually do quite well with what 'corporate' demands of them. No fish losses in months!!!

How about some MONSTER ANGELFISH.. They all got along FINE in this single massive tank! A huge french, TWO black angels, a queen angel, and a few others..and all of these guys were all about 20-24", and they showed VERY little aggression. Not to mention the massive moray eel just 'hanging' out. Grouper was patroling the whole time, finally got a shot on him too! Can't forget the school of MASSIVE LOOKDOWNS. These guys were dinner plate sized!

Then inside the cafe, we requested to sit by 1 of the 2 HUGE acrylic aquariums they had centrally located in the restaraunt. They were all curved glass, in a kidney bean shape, and could be viewed at 360 degrees rotation. They had some of the smaller, and less aggressive fish.. However, they had this MONSTER BATFISH. It was atleast 24" and was like the size of a serving platter! Check out some of the other goodies they had displayed as well.

O yeah.. load warning.

So when I was snapping some pictures.. There was a lady standing next to the host at the front of the cafe. She was looking at some of the fish very inquisitivaly I noticed.. However, I believe she overheard me identifying all of the fish for my wife.. I guess it's not everyday the 'curator' of the aquariums hears people ramble off words like 'Moorish Idle, Panther Grouper, Lookdowns, Batfish, Wrasse, etc etc'.

Anyways, she introduced herself and she was the curator of the fish tanks. We got to chatting about our interested in fish, and after she discovered I imported fish, she invited me for a tour of the back room!

So heres a sneak peak out how a commercial filtration system works.. This was plumbed up into the ceiling and to the back of the cafe.

First off is the quarantine tank.. They also had a few hospital tanks, but they were not worth taking pictures of ;)..
