Anyone notice their bichirs becomes very active the day before it rains. Here in BC its been sunny in the first days of the week and then starts to rain on the weekends. I been keeping bichirs 8 years now but this is the first time I notice them doing so. Been observing for this pass 2 months now and they been doing the same behavior, swimming around all over the tank before the rain starts the next day. Usually my large 2-3 years old bichirs does this. The young ones are just clueless and does their daily activity, being lazy.

I'm not sure why but probably for breeding reason.

my guess is it has to do with a low in barometric pressure, when i fish this really helps because depending on the species, the fish become more active when a storm is moving in. and the fishing is way better

I have a senegal and a butti bichir, both go nuts when the barometer drops. They lose their minds and just pace like snaky machines for hours on end.

Yes, it's amazing that fish kept in aquariums, indoors, can still be so affected by barometric pressure! I used to have several species of WC utaka from Malawi, who always spawned right before a storm! I could always count on them, just like clock work! It would be very interesting to find some research on this phenomenon. Does anyone know of any?:D Johnathan

My Ornate has been acting weird lately... very active picking fights with everyone last 2 days and it just started pouring out right now

my endlis are very active before and during rains. while my laps and ornates are passive as usual. they are like going crazy.

Sometimes my sen's get a little crazier than usual, but I haven't put 2 & 2 together to link it to anything yet. I'll have to pay more attention.
