So ive heard about how delicate these guys are. i just got one at about 1" . i know what i would do with any fry size fish but it was always ny understanding that they are delicate and fade when bought small. so i wanted tips from yall that have raised a tiny one to a good size and let me know what are the key "ingredients" to avoid fading away . btw hes in a 10g right now all to him self. any info would be appreciated. :) pics would rocks :headbang:

Get it out of the 10 gallon. It will be more stable in a larger volume of water. Heat at least 80 degrees and avoid feeding high protein food items. Feed a quality pellet and keep the water clean. Hope you got a good ebjd.

I second the above ^. Getting him/her in a tank that's big enough is the probably the most beneficial thing you can do for him/her right now. Feed a good quality pellet, and keep up with weekly water changes.

I raised small EBJDs three times before and never had a problem. I fed them New Life Spectrum - Thera + A Non-Medicated Anti Parasitic Formula regularly and had a UV in the tank. Not sure if it made a difference but they turned out alright.

All very good tips. Clean water, bigger tank, not too much protein, and keep them solo until over 3". Here is a vid.[YT]Z5cQTCsWTWQ[/YT]

I am also raising a small EBJD (about an inch) and he is in a 32 gal grow out with 2 cory cats, and 3 black skirt tetras. There has never been a problem. For the first month I had aquarium salt in the tank, 1tbs for every 5 gallons, to prevent parasites. after the first month i stopped adding salt with the water changes, and i am gradually reducing the amount in the tank with every water change. Just make sure that the tank is kept clean, and don't overfeed. You may add salt if you feel you need it, but is not necessary, just a precaution. You may also want a bigger tank for him to grow out in. DSCF1034.JPGDSCF1033.JPG, sorry for the crappy pics also....:(

Thank you for ur advice. this one was locally bred by a person with a very nice pair. which is why he was so cheap $10. i will switch him to a 29 i think he will disapear in there lol. he looks so fryish. then when he 3" move up and up. water changes are no problem he will be fit into the regular weekly routine. :) he has a heater rly good filtration and the works. also has a cute personality for such a little tike :)

I had my EBJD in a 10 gallon tank, because it was under a inch. Now he is currently in a 37 gallon tank by himself still and he is currently 3 inches. If you want to check into a uv sterilizer, you can check out aquatop that has a built in uv sterilizer in their power filter.

Salt is supposedly a natural laxative and most ebjd health issues have to do with intestinal weakness and parasite infestation so that may be something to look into as well. I have used salt off and on but I feel it is beneficial.

I have medicated flakes anti protozoa and anti bacterial should i feed him this? hes so active im shocked at his personality at sucha tiny size. lol.
