Some tips that are KNOWN to work. (Researched online and tried live by myself)
1. So far... i have kept the PH around 7.4 ish... (FH are known to like a lil higher PH)
2. FEEDING IS KEY: a WELL fed FH is NORMALLY less aggressive than one that is not being fed right... (feed mine 2 times a day... some pellets+flakes)
3. NO TO FEEDER FISH (if you want it to TRY and keep it with another fish): Why you ask? Live food make FH MORE aggressive. Think about it this way... when you throw in a feeder, the FH starts understanding...it can HUNT, KILL and EAT..other FISH... it won't really be able to tell the difference between tank mates and the feeder fish you throw in.
Not only this, feeder fish can have a LOT of bacteria/parasites that can be passed on to your FH causing sickness (Stay SAFE without feeder fish!!). If you research people that give the FH live food...many of them have had their FH catch HITH and other diseases from parasites....
However, LIVE bloodworms, earthworms, crickets (i hear some people feed em), pellets (ALSO use vegetable pellets)...BALANCE out the diet and you should be fine... just feeder FISH...most experts say no too.
4. Always check your FH's body..even when young to see if the scales, fins, gills are all in good shape... REMEMBER... a FH thats always hungry... is normally a HEALTHY FH.
These are things I read online and learnt from this site... I have done these things so far (just have not started with live food yet)... and my FH looks healthy and fine!
