I recenlty bought 2 buttikoferi about 1 inch long a piece. I have them in a 40 gallon breeder tank, by themselves. They are really shy and I have yet to see them eat but ive had them over a week. What is best to feed small fry like this Ive been crushing up shrimp and sprinkilng it on top of water. Thanks for the help!

Live brineshrimp to start, then switch to crushed flakes.
frozen baby brineshrimp for 2-4 weeks, (or u can hatch your own), then frozen Daphnia for another 2-4 weeks before adult brine shrimp. However I have had success by getting fry to eat crushed flake food very early-on so in this case, as per tlindsey tlindsey 's suggestion, since the crushed flake has far more protein and nutritional value getting them to a crushed flake or crushed pellet food will have unlimited benefits to you.

The Brasiliensis fry are pushing 1/2" already and it's only been about 3 months. I got them eating pre-soaked Hikari Bio-Gold+ too the point it was soft and pliable when I put it in their tank so they just bite of little bite-sized pieces at their own leisure and the leftovers sit there until they get hungry again. 45% crude protein for fry offers an exceptional growth rate from what I have been seeing.

yep i know all about these, def my dream fish thays why i got them. when all is said and done the goal is to have one giant butti in a tank of his own. Trying to power grow them! il check on the brine shrimp!

stick to pellets for now, they probably JUST recently started on pellets and that is the goal. You can give them minced frozen/thawed fish fillets weekly, but it will only be a tiny bit at a time. Frozen bloodworms as a treat will be equally appreciated as will frozen squid and clams on the half-shell

Sorry for responding so late Frank Castle Frank Castle but you and duanes advice of crush pellet or crushed flake is excellent advice . I personally wouldn't feed the fry frozen Brine shrimp due to lack of nutrition, but with that being said Brine shrimp does trigger some species of fish fry to start eating.

Just put a hippo turd in there they can snack on whenever... Seriously though crushed flakes should work fine.
