I am trying to spawn cyp. and paracyp. right now with zero luck. First paracyp spawn resulted in 0 fry and first cyp spawn resulted in female dying in the net after I finally caught her. I rescued four of the TEN fry she was holding, it seemed as I chaced her she was munching on the fry and killed most of them before she died of stress apparently. I think in both cases I should of allowed the females to hold a week or so longer to allow better development of the fry. With the cyp. I miss calculted spawn time and the paracyp I was just to rammy!

I plan to take a different approach next time but have a few questions has anyone here ever seen the frie soon after release? Do they actively swim in the mid water? Or do they hang around the bottom for a bit before figuring out the whole swimming thing? My hope is to leave the females hold to term and let the releasr the fry and see if I get a better survival rate!

I always moved the holding females to a seperate tank and let them spit when they were ready. I'm not a fan of stripping, especially cyps with their little, fragile mouths. I averaged over 10 fry per female with this method, usually getting between 12-15 at a time. The best way to catch the females without stressing them out is to catch them at night, after the tank has been completely dark for an hour or so. Cyps will sleep on the bottom and are extremely easy to catch using a flashlight to spot the fish you want. If you move the net slowly you can catch them with no hassle, or stress at all.

My first spawn was from a male and female around 2 inches. I lost one female at the same tima as the spawn to the floor! I moved the tank I was growing them out in and found I had lost 4 of seven to jumping out. I noticed they were dissappearing but thought the pleco that was in there was gobbling up the carcases. A good cover noe resides over the tank that contains them.

i used to catch the females at night. they are slow and will not swallow their fry. from there you can transfer to a new tank or strip the female.
