Hi all,

Last year I purchased a pair of halfmoon fighting fish and they spawned within a week in a 18 gallon tank. I fed the fry infusoria then moved onto microworms. The fry lasted for about a month and didn't really grow a whole lot. They just sat on the bottom of the tank (some on their sides).

The adult fish also stayed surprisingly small and I only have the female left which just lies on its side occasionally moving for food or air.

I am planning on getting another pair and trying to raise their fry so my question is am i doing something wrong? Should I feed the young bbs. Also do you think something was wrong with the adult fish? I fed them a varied diet (some vegetable matter too) and did regular water changes with no ammonia or nitrates, ph around 7.2.

Let me know what you think!

Cheers!

feed them brine shrimp but done over feed as it will cause bloated belly causing them to swim on their side. BBS will definitely make ur fry grow at a faster rate.

Yes, expect them to be small. A little starvation and your frys will die like flies. Always keep them away from hunger. You can now move them into BBS if you wish. But as soon as it is 2 months or so, I recommend you to try and wean them into pellets. Buy some New Life Spectrum at 1mm size and crush them a little and feed it to them.
Here's what I recommend you to do. Add some IAL(Indian Almond Leaf) or BWE(Black Water Extract) to their water. This will help sooth your fish more, and it is non toxic. I always use these for my when I breed them, when I keep them, and when I ship them. It is a must thing for me to use for my bettas.
