the rock...671!!!
does anyone use API pH UP, to increase their pH level? i purchased it a week ago and it doesn't seem to be working...i'm trying to raise my pH from 6.2 to 7.0...following all the directions on the bottle, 2 drops per gal every 24 hours(120drops), did 1 25percent water change on the 3rd day...but after 6 days(with checking the pH every other day), my water is still reading 6.2 acidic...i used to use a japanese brand that set the pH to neutral right of the bat (not quite sure how it worked, it was all in japanese, neighbor translated for me) but i don't have access to the product anymore. :help2: :help2:

my belief on the matter is that unless you are trying to breed your fisg are better off in a tank with a stable PH rather then one that you are trying to keep at a diffrent level. the fluctating PH can stress the fish more.

in fact with a PH like yours there are some really unusual fish that you could not only keep perfectly but that would also breed and could potentially earn enough to pay for new tanks equipment food etc etc. just an idea.

If you must raise your ph try to stay away from chemicals. Throw some crushed coral in a stocking. Experiment with it to get the desired ph.

If I am having pH problems. And, I can't find something in the tank to blame, I get my buffers out. There are many brands and types. If you can think of a pH for a fish, they make the buffer. My local water supply is all goofed up right now. The pH in all of my tanks now only holds for 2 days. The water company is not putting enough buffers in it. http://www.customaquatic.com/customaquatic/brandsubcategory.asp?brandID=SC&subcatID=ad-fpa&offset=30
Check out this link to SEACHEM. They are probably the largest suplier of buffers in the world.

yeah i agree with the stable pH, which is why i'm trying to get it back up. all my tanks are neutral or close to neutral. have no idea why it dropped so suddenly, i usually check pH every other week, freaked out when i found a tank at 6.2. but my fish seem to be doing fine, as far as i can tell. as of now, pH is still 6.2, and it's been over a week. so i'm hoping my fish have adapted to it already...if i start seeing any problems, i'll get the crushed coral plan moving...thanks for all the info everyone.
