So, my eggs hatched, the wigglers are now fry...but how do I best grow out fry to maximize size and number of survivors? I've raised jags before with only a few survivors. I'd like to get a better yield on these guys.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks MFK's!

Beautiful pair. What size tank. Are there any other fish with them. Usually its best to leave fry with parents as long as possible. When u see parents eating them or cloud getting a lot smaller then its time to pull fry and put in separate tank. Usually around .25"-.5" is a gouge time. Around that size my pairs are getting ready to spawn again so that's when I pull mine. Good luck I'm sure the parents will do a great job and raise u a nice batch;)

100 gallons, each parent is about 7 inches, no other fish (other than some small plecos which now hide like crazy since the male is now chasing everything including me). I got them when they were older (at different times) but this is their first batch.

Any suggestions on what to feed the little guys? Again in the past I just let the parents eat their normal diet and the fry will eat the "mess". Brine shrimp? Blood worms?

I am concerned about how rapid these fish breed. Seems like the fry are barely large enough to move before the parents start over.

Thanks for your input.

I feed fry crumbles, soft sprulina pellets that I mash into powder, veggie flakes ground. Eventually they'll start eating same as parents. Some fish are breeding factories LOL and IMO is a great thing. You'll Just have to keep up:) and I would definitely buy some fry when they're larger.

Count me in for some RTM fry as well. ;) A good fish food for the fry would be Hikari First Bites and in my opinion one of the best fish foods for raising new born fry.

I've had success with hikari first bites and mixing in between all my random food crushed up into powder. They grow like weeds.

Haha, the food dust at the bottom the can of any good cichlid food seems to work pretty well - they can really grow like weeds if you feed them frequently. Great looking parents

Thanks all, I'll see how fast I can get them to grow. I'm trying crushed NLS and Spirulina. Can't really tell if they are eating it but they do hang around the bottom a lot where the food lands...so I'm guessing they are eating fine.

Unfortunately I am not set up to sell or ship fry, but I will likely trade with a local guy here that does. He has an online shop and can/does ship. I have no particular need for all these fry and I don't want to kill them...so he'll probably end up with most of them anyway.

I'll keep you posted.

That's awesome! I'll buy them from Jim anyday. :D Hopefully they all survive, good luck with the RTM fry. Until then I'll be waiting for them to show up on on Jim's list. ;)
