Sorry if this has been discussed but I couldn't find a thread. I am getting a 220 gallon tank and steel stand tomorrow. The problem is the stand is only 24" tall. I'd like it to be 6-10" taller. Preferably 10" What would be my best route to go? Build a platform on the floor under the stand? Or build a platfor on top of the stand under the tank? I will be making a wooden wrap to go around the stand. Or should I just make a new wood stand and skin it?

a platform over or under will work just the same. Cheapest way would be cinder blocks under the stand. If your going to skin it anyway you could just make the wood skin go to the floor and cover the cinders. I currently have steel stands stacked with the regular cinder blocks and the solid ones aswell, either will work. Personally id just leave it at 24" much easier to get into. i have a 300 on a 38" stand and i cant even reach to the bottom on a step ladder.

Tall stands look amazing dont get me wrong i have atleast 5 tanks up that high but it can be annoying when you have to work in them.... 30" height is pretty good all around. I just built a 27" and its prob my fav. Outta 29 tanks. Super easy to hand feed my sharks and its one of the only tanks i can reach to the bottom without a ladder. If urs is a show tank id go 36" if not id just go practical.

Ya it's going to be a show tank in my rec room in the basement. Right now with the steel stand, plywood and foam I'm about 25" tall. So I'm going to make a 2x8 base with 5/8" osb. So that should bring the stand to around 33". I'm 6'1" tall so I'd like the tank a little higher for when I'm standing.

I am 5'8" tall and I have my 2x4 stand at 36" tall and is perfect eye level for me. Good height for sitting down and standing up and is super easy for me to clean with a ladder :).

Wish I can get a steel stand instead but my doors won't fit a 36" tall stand because my tank Is a 5x3x2

Thanks. I got to thinking about height after. If i go too high it will be a huge pain to clean it.
Hello; Yes, i want the top of a tank to be below the level of my arm pit without having to stand on anything.
Good luck
