i posted this in a different section also but there is only a few viewers there so...my temp is about 78 degrees and my heater raises the temp about 1 degree per hour. so can i raise the temp straight up to 86-87 degrees or do i need to stagger it somehow?

just turn your heater up and your good to go...
I raise mine to 84 and make sure you get some salt from the pet store...
your ick will be gone in no time.......

a week or 10 days....then do a major water change and
slowly bring the temp back to 78 over a few days....
