Every one is bad at something, and I'm bad with genetics, So don't think I'm stupid for asking a silly question.

Is it possible to breed a Bolivian ram with a German ram. I know that they are Both rams but there scientific names are different, German = Mikrogeophagus ramirezi and the Bolivian = Microgeophagus altispinosa.

Over the years I have found that some fish within the same species will not breed. I can't think of a example because I'm tied, and yes i know, It's in the afternoon :D

If it is possible can you please show me pictures of the fry.

Cheers, Liam

ththey can breed. if i remember my friend told me i think. they are pumped with a chemical to make the blue rams look like that thats why there life span sucks

The rams that die early are dyed or injected. I hate this practice, I do not know how Bolivian and German Blue rams could spawn together, if anyone has proof, please show.

Me too, It seems like "cheating" to inject or dye a fish and it's inhumane. Who would like a big *** needle going into you stomach?

Yeah I'd like to see if they could breed and see what the fry turn out like.

Regardless of genetics, I'm sure german and bolivian rams could breed. If they don't do it, they could be bred artifically, but the brood might be infertile.

What you COULD POSSIBLY do is knock out the fish with a TINY amount of clove oil and extract the eggs from a mature female, then get some milt(Sperm) from the male and put the 2 in a tumbler, it will probably fertilize the eggs but the offspring would be sterile. But then gain thats whats said with the Blood Parrot and it has still had succesful breeding reports.

I doubt you could get the 2 different fish to spawn with eachother, so manually doing it is probably the only option.

That'd be hard, Real hard to do, Too much effort for me, lol, I'd just let them do there thing.

And i don't feel comfortable touching a fishies sperm :D

They are not pumped with chemicals to make the German Blue Rams look the way they do. They are 2 different fish, Bolivians and German Blue's. They don't take a Bolivian and inject it so it looks like a German Blue Ram. And yes, I do believe that is where Balloon Rams come from, from the 2 interbreeding.
