i just got 2 2 in. ram cichlids in my 55 with a 2.75 in. earth eater and a 1 in. albino bushynose pleco and i'm soon going to add a baby EBJD. and i was wondering if those fish will get along, and how fast does the rams grow. Thanks!

I have had very poor luck keeping rams. You should be good in the setup for a while. Please keep in mind that the rams are dwarf cichlids and at some point in time the EBJDs and more that likely also the earth eater will grow large enough to become extremely serious threats to your rams.

I agree.

the ebjd needs to be king of the ring and it will be..

my BGJD's actually just bred there first time and only 12 of the fry survived and one of them was an EBJD so i'm going to raise him up to 3 in. then sell him

I would also add (besides the tank space issue) that in order to keep Microgeophagus ramirezi thriving they need LOTS and LOTS of heat. I have never been successful keeping in temps less than 84 degrees and pristine water. They are like discus IMO when it comes to water quality. They are a short lived but awesome species, good luck with them!

not sure about compatibility, but I had to add that I had a pair of rams and LOVED them. beautiful fish and amazing behavior. they spawned a couple times, no fry survived, then found out the female had a parasite and the male either had it too or caught it. luckily didn't spread to other tanks. I tried to treat it but the fish were too sensitive - if the parasite wasn't making them sick the meds were, and more "holisitic" methods weren't fast/strong enough - and both died. some day would like to try them again as i love the smaller cichlids with "napoleon" complexes, BUT I will never forget that as dwarf cichlids they are more sensitive to water conditions, chemicals, etc AND will be sure to get them from a more reputable breeder to avoid illnesses like that nasty parasite
