So I noticed last night that my gold rams laid eggs. They've done this a couple times before, and every time, they eat the eggs. I've read that rams can be very fickle parents and are hard to breed. But does eating them indicate the eggs were bad/would not hatch or just that the rams are not good parents? I would love to raise some ram fry, but have not been in the least successful. Any suggestions?

Domestic blue rams (german blues, golds) are notorious egg eaters. Mine did it all the time, but I never had a second small tank at the time to remove the eggs to. Very common with these rams (not so with bolivians though).

I do believe in giving them as many chances as you can, but if they continue and you want ram fry, you may have to get a tank and pull the rock the eggs are on and raise them that way.

My rams lay eggs about every 2 weeks. They even given them their own 10g to breed and raise them in. Had about 8 unsuccessful spawns. So i just said screw it and put them w/ my discus. I'm not gonna go outta my way to breed some rams. :irked:
