it’s tine to replace the probe on my temperature controller. Last time I heat sinked the ends. Do you think that’s necessary? I see a lot of folks that use them in making beer don’t do it.

I've read mixed responses on here regarding the Ranco provided probe. I actually suspect there were different types made for that. My first probe went crazy even with heat shrink after 8 months. I repalced with another Ranco probe with heat shrink and it's worked for 3 years now.
I'd say heat shrink to be safe.
