With the decoration in the tank, does it keep the aggression down with the cichlids?

Yah, it does.....The only fish that really guard a territory are the HRP and Pink Con. Everybody else just swim around and make the occasional "nip" at their tankmates. Have not had any casualties......yet I used to have discus in with this group, but had to re-home them as they were just not aggressive enough to get enough food, not due to them being picked on. The tank is full of activity, and with an FX5 and two XP3's....stays very clean.
