So i do my weekly water change and over the following 3 days my water looks more and more ****ty. its getting cloudy and a yellowish green tinge to it. it looks like i haven't changed my water in a month but it started happening the day after i changed it.... the only change i've made to my tank is that my 4 rbp are now eating pellets instead of shrimp.

any ideas as to why this happened? i already changed my filters

cloudy water could be caused by ammonia spike. how much water did you change and did you replace filter media at the same time? if so then you pretty much took out most of the beneficial bacterials and now your tank is going through the whole cycling process all over again. do some small water change like 10%-15% or so everyday and KEEP the filter media in it so those good bacterial can grow. see if you can go to lfs get a bottle of SeaChem Stability (bacterial in a bottle supplement) and that will help to speed up the cycling by introduce additional BB into your tank.

as for the yellowish green color, I'm not sure what it is, do your rbps finish all the pellets you feed them right away? if not do you just leave them in the water? I'm guessing is either that or if your tank gets lots of light then it could be alge...not too sure. just keep up with the small water change and pick out all the left over pellets after every feeding and see if that improves. if you have gravel, vacuum those too to make sure there's not left over pellets in there.
also if the tank is expose to a lot of light then try to cover it up cuz with all those waste in the tank alge will grow like crazy then you get green water.

what size tank and what kind of filter you have anyway? just curious.

First I would look at your bioload? How much do you have in there. If you have to much your water changes might not be able to keep up. Secondly I would look at the water your addding. If your tap water has a lot of nutrients in it this could be adding to the problem and finally I would look at your lighting. To much lighting could be increasing an algae problem. I had something similar happen many years ago where the water turned a yellowish green and it ened up being algae. If that is the case just take the normal steps you would to eliminate a nussance algae problem. For me I can't remember exactly but once I figured out it was algae and took the proper steps it took about a week to get rid of.

yea sounds like you crashed your cycle.. changing water and replacing all the filterpads at the same time is never good for a tank.. when changing just change out one filter each time, so the BB in the other filter(s) can help seed the new pads

thanks, i'm almost certain it isn't algae the tank doesn't get nearly enough light to support their existence, and the filter pads may have been an issue, but due to the comments i beleive my main problem is the fish not eating 100% of the pellets i feed, they seem to leave a few and they just decompose i think this is were the coloration is coming from... thanks alot...

i have a 55g tank with proper filtration. don't know the specifics on my filters just know that they've been doing a great job thus far

you could always add another filter ,fx5 or something it wouldnt hurt. good luck
