Over there
I just got a freshwater dolphin Saturday. I believe it is a mormyrus longirostris and today it was breathing EXTREMELY rapidly. It is in a 20g with 2 small geos and a gatf and the tank is highly oxygenated by an airstone placed under a powerhead to break the bubbles up even more to break more surface area.
Params are:
Temp 82F
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate <0.5

What should I do? I read that high nitrates and low O2 can cause this but I don't think that's causing this. It ate a lot of live blackworms yesterday and today it ate some but not as much.

Withhold food for a day or two, do a good water change rinse the filter media and increase airation. See if the helps.

Thanks! I did a wc and the breathing has slowed down but it's still kinda fast. I dunno if that's how this fish normally breathes or not though :/

Holy crap bro, that's a big fish. Certainly a monster oddball. I don't know much about them but I'd suggest pretty much the same as aqua. Hope he gets better, that's a nice find :)
