Hey does anyone know if there are any products out there that are supposed to increase the growth rate of your fish. I know most people want their fish to grow slower, but I am a little impatient. LOL. If there is I would like to test it on goldfish first to see if it actually works. I will do a in home blind study to see which gold fish grow faster. The ones that get the product or the ones that don't. What do you guys think? Hmmmm, don't make steroids for fish do they??? JK. lol. :naughty:

I ran a 1 yr test with it on a fry batch. The ones I used it on did see a faster and better growth rate.

havent tried any other products.

try the natural approach beefheart is a food that supplies lots of protein so it makes fish grow alot faster especially with piranhas....

i recently read a study on the effect of methyltestostosterone on tilapia... apparently it increased growth rate with several hundered percent in some cases. since methyltestosterone is a common drug among bodybuilders there's a big chance other common steroids work on fish as well.

any bodybuilders willing to give it a try and report here?

Whenever I have fry and want to sell it (I used to have africans...), I would put them in a good size tank and do daily water changes...small ones, but lots of them. The fry grew twice as fast.

Those products are nasty, I would not recommend if you plan to keep the fish.

As said, beef heart is also good.

A big tank, clean water, high protein diet. I had a clown knife in a 10g tank that grew from 2" to 11" in 6 months. I did weekly water changes (25%). I fed it a dozen feeders once a week and bloodworms the other 6 days. It was a tank at work so it had to be small, but I moved him back home to a 75g tank, but if I had him in the 75g right from the start, I'm sure it would gotten a lot bigger and probably faster.

My little brother is an amateur body builder and he has these oral liquids such as Mag-10 and M-1T they are/were legal anabolic steroids till they were taken off the market at the beginning of this year. i tried to beef up a FH with the stuff, but couldnt find a reliable way to administer it. i think id need to put a gelatin capsule full of it inside of whatever i was feeding to the fish. the other problem is they dont really like the taste and most fish i have kept posess a phyrangeal mill ( teeth in the throat by the gills ) and they chew their food. the other problem is with testosterone producing drugs you natural test production shuts down so you need to restart it with the likes of Nolvadex or other various testosterone boosters and anti-estrogens or you will just pretty much produce estrogen which does no good in the quest for growth or muscle. sooooooo, if anyone out there has an idea of how to administer these drugs some way other than orally id say you could end up with some bad ass mean monsters if fed proper amounts of food at proper times throughout the day. of course if they could get their fish to actually swim against currents or dig large amounts of gravel it would accelerate the process!!!! just food for thought. i gave my 2 cents....

most of the so called "legal steroids" are pro-hormones... they become active substances in the human liver and should therefor not work on fish. methyltestosterone however is an orally active (testosterone must be injected or otherwise distributed to the blood system without passing the liver) and it should be no problem just adding it the your homemade shrimp mix or other frozen foods. as for blunting the receptors or stunting regular growth (which is a problem with humans)... it would probably not be used in fisheries if this were the case.

i think m1test (methyl-1-testosterone)... a "legal steroid" is still available in some states.

probably wouldnt be used in fisheries if they were tryin to keep the fish alive long term. they grow them to size and sell them for food. im sure youd cut the life of your fish down substantially if they were on a constant "CYCLE" thats why i figured youd want them on cycle for 6 weeks or so and then off cycle etc...all anabolic oral steroids are gonna go through your liver. thats why many body builders go with the injectibles....liver failure is common among steroid abusers. i tried soaking pellets and krill in the M1T and i did notice my fish begin to go into pre spawning rituals shortly there after, but then as soon as i quit administering it his colors would fade and he would seem to settle down rather quickly. i only experimented for about 2 months till i ran out of my brothers left overs. if anyone would know of a way that it can be done id like to know. and i do believe that M1T is still available in some states, but should be banned soon. no worries though, they already have a whole arsenal of moleculary different products out that perform the same functions.
