Hello everyone, I purchased a 4" rivulatus from Rapps 3 weeks ago or so. At first, I thought it was a white saum, however it's gold just came in and it's absolutely gorgeous. Any idea on its sex? I think it's a male, but that's only because I really want it to be male. Any suggestions and feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you

It's hard to tell from those pictures. Can you tell if it's spawning tube is down? If it is and you can get a nice up close look at it, try to see if it's pointed or not. A females will be much more blunt and less pointy than a males.

I will definitely check it out when I get home tonight. I did notice intricate fin design which I know is indicative of male, however I am biased. I will post better pics of its tube tonight. Thank you

Yeah try to get a nice close up picture of that. Some of the GT guys on here will know for sure.

Photos can be deceiving. I know those are all photos of the same fish, yet in some of them I think male, others female.

Examine the genitalia, or venting, is going to be the most reliable method to sex many fish, but it's not generally required with Rivulatus once they reach a certain size.

At 4" your fish should be right there.

The dark substrate may not be helping with trying to sex the fish via photograph either, but if I was to wager a guess I'd say male.

Thank you for all the info guys! I will be posting better photos tonight or in the morning. Hopefully that will clarify this up for me.

I have studied my rivulatus and I do not see any tube at all. I took some more photos, but they aren't the best quality. It's pooping in the photo
