Rare chance to see lamena spawning

Wonderful Jose!! I'm amazed at how graceful they are during the spawn, considering how rough they can be on each other. The slow, delicate movement is fascinating!

Excellent, from the color, they look fertile how did the clutch of eggs you removed do?

Hello Duane:
The first clutch was laid a little over 4 weeks ago, they were fertile and I'm busy raising over 100 babies. This clutch also looks fertile though a bit smaller than the first. With any luck there'll be another one before the end of summer.

That is correct Laurie, I have not seen this behavior in lamena, they seem to be getting gentler toward one another with every spawn. The eggs hatched last night, about 1/2 from the first spawn and the pair remains at peace. I hope to get a better video next time.

Thank you for the info Jose. I can't help but wonder if there's something unique that's occurred with this pair that may be a crucial component to perpetuating the species. This makes me think of your prior statements regarding outdoor ponds. Lets say their natural habitats weren't destroyed and they were still prolific in their original Madagascar environment. One can speculate their behavior would more conducive to peaceful cohabitation and spawning. Perhaps there wouldnt be such an extreme level of conspecific aggression? Sadly there are so many barriers for this species. I'm very pleased with your success and truly hope they have a better chance now.
