One of our animal control officers collected a pair of Kirtland snakes today from a dumpster and brought them down to the shelter. They are on the endangered species list for most Midwest States due to a loss of habitat (marshland development). Someone from the Indiana DNR is coming to rescue them today!

wow cool snakes ;)

Nice snakes. I have only see one Kirtland's snake in my life. They aren't very common in my state either or prehaps they're just secretive.

From everything I've read, they don't fare well in captivity. We turned them over to the Department of Natural Resources; I'm not sure if they will just be released back in to the wild or if they will use them in a breeding program.
