Hi I'm looking for some ideas on rare South American cichlids, I have a 7 foot tank with some rare cichlids at the moment but I've got more space now due to removing some fish.

Looking for any ideas

Thanks

I think you need to be more specific.
There are rare S Americans from the cool waters of Uruguay, but because they need cool fluctuating temps would not work with those from northern S America where water is constantly warm.
There are also those that come from west of the Andes and live in alkaline water that would not work with Amazonian type that prefer soft, acidic and tannin rich conditions.
Even those from the same clade can require vastly different water condition.

These A heckelli above, from northern S America prefer warm (80sF), somewhat soft water, conditions. But their close cousin G quilero (below) from Uruguay prefer a cool down into the 60sF or even lower.

same goes for some of the pike cichlids, even though they are from the same genus

The belly crawler above prefers warm water,
the Crenicichla from Uruguay below cooler waters

the distance between Manaus in Brazil to Montevideo in Uruguay is almost twice the distance between Miami Fl and Toronto Ontario.

Hi thanks for the photos, I do own a heckelli and 2 deamon geo's. I like the second photo down I'm going to look these up.

At the moment I have red tiger cichlids, red terrors a few Geo's. I was breeding salvinis but there become more available now so I've kept one of the fry which is doing very well at the moment.
I like the larger more aggressive cichlids for South America.

At the moment I'm just looking for other peoples ideas of rare South American cichlids as I'm looking to add to my tank this year.

If you like the pike species there are members on the forum that have lots of experience with them.
