yeah and does anyone know about colecting laws in missouri i cant seem to find anything about it and i prolly need some sort of permit to have natives

The guy in that picture doesn't look too friendly to me...

But I've kept a couple for a short time. The care shouldn't be any different from that of a cornsnake.

Rat snakes are an active snake that needs a lot more room than a python or boa of similar size...mice are your best bet for feeding in a captive environment, although in the wild they will eat just about any small rodent, bird, frogs, small lizards, etc. Mice are the most readily available so I wouldn't get too adventurous with the feeding options...

You're best best is to buy a captive bred rat snake...they are inexpensive as well and can be found at just about any herp show or through a breeder on the internet. I would avoid collecting one from the wild as they may never acclimate to captivity, could have parasites, not to mention that you don't want to adversely impact your local ecosystem......

That guy looks pretty peeved in your photo. I catch black rat snakes from time to time. Sometimes they can be mean as hell and other times you can just pick them up without a problem.

I agree. You shouldn't take a breeding adult from the ecosystem. Now maybe if you found a newly hatched baby it wouldn't be so bad. Definitely check out a reptile show for a nice captive bred one.
